If you stick yourself with needles, you will get a bruise
One of the hazards of diabetes is that we don’t have a map of where are blood vessels lie beneath our skin. Since we are inserting needles into ourselves quite frequently, it is inevitable that at some point, you will hit a blood vessel. Not that big of a deal. It happens, but I was amazed this week by people’s reactions. As if I had failed or something bad had happened. No, I don’t need to call my doctor. No, I won’t bleed to death. No, I didn’t do the insertion incorrectly.
It just happened. Apply pressure. Expect a bruise and move on. Nothing to see folks! Move along. It’s just part of the drill.
