Newsy Tuesday: Is it too good to be true? Smart Insulin!

by | Jun 11, 2019 | Education, News | 0 comments

Check out this article about a new smart insulin developed at UCLA!   “i-insulin” is a new formulation that has an extra molecule which helps regulate insulin.  Somehow it knows when glucose levels are normal, and doesn’t allow for further insulin to get into the cells, which prevents hypoglycemia or low blood sugar!   In theory, it could mean tighter control with less risk of hypoglycemia and longer term delivery models.  It hasn’t started clinical trial yet, but this new insulin actually “exists”  so it feels like it may be closer to something we actually see in our homes!

Always hopeful and grateful for these men of science!
